How the decision of Hip Replacement surgery is made?

The ultimate decision is of the patient. The diagnosis of the hip conditions are made by various methods such as

1. X-ray

2. Accessing the limitation of daily activities due to hip pain

3. Medical history

4. Physical examination of the hip

5. Prognosis of a successful recovery

How the hip joint replacement surgery is performed:

1. First, the damaged boney edges are removed both from the pelvic bone (the area is known as acetabulum) and the head of the femur (hip bone) along with some shaft.

2.  After which, the edges are made further smooth to fit the artificial implant properly and snugly.

3. Some joint replacement surgeries need bone cement, while others not, it depends upon the age and the general health of the patient.

4. After that, the ball is placed on the hip bone that will mimic the original head.

5. The pelvic part is also replaced with an artificial implant or the cap of the ball.

6. A spacer is also provided between the two components so that they glide smoothly over each other thus ensuring painless and full range movements.

7. The incision is then closed and the patient is sent in the recovery room.
